Goaltender Cal Schell stopped all 26 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season as the Hamilton Kilty B’s wrapped up their home schedule with a 2-0 win over the Pelham Panthers at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Monday.
The Kilty B’s (35-11-1) have just one road game remaining in the regular season, in St. Catharines on Friday, before opening playoffs next Monday against the sixth-place Fort Erie Meteors (12-30-4).
Mark Duarte scored the eventual game-winner in the final minute of the second period in Monday’s win over Pelham, while Holden Rogers added some insurance midway through the third on a power play. It was the ninth straight win for the Kilty B’s, who outshot the Panthers 32-26.
Schell is now second in the 25-team GOJHL with a 2.14 goals-against average to go with his 16-4-0 record and .922 save-percentage.
It was the Hamilton club’s second straight win over the Panthers, with the Kilty B’s having pulled out a 3-2 win in double-overtime in Pelham on Friday.
Luke Croucher was the hero, scoring his second of the game in double-OT to secure the win. Marino Moro also scored for Hamilton, while Brendan Charlton and Noah Caperchione scored for Pelham (25-16-5).
