2022-23 Player of the Month Award Winners

The GOJHL’s Player of the Month for December is Zac McCann of the Stratford Warriors. The 20-year-old veteran picked up 14 goals and 22 points as his team won all seven of their games in the month. The Stratford native also had three 4-point games in December. McCann is the league’s leading scorer with 64 points in 33 games as the Warriors win steak has reached 15 games, propelling them into first place in the Midwestern Division. McCann is the conference’s reigning Most Valuable Player.

Niagara Falls Canucks forward Alexander Hebblethwaite is the GOJHL’s Rookie of the Month for December. The 17-year-old Mississauga native scored 8 goals on four 2-goal games and added 5 assists in 7 games. He leads the Canucks in scoring with 34 points in 24 games. The 17-year-old was a 12th round pick by the Oshawa Generals in the 2021 OHL Priority Draft and was selected to participate in the 2022 GOJHL Top Prospects Game.

The Goaltender of the Month for December is Bryce Walcarius from the Leamington Flyers. He posted a perfect 4 and 0 record in the month with a miniscule 1.75 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. The 20-year-old Aylmer native is in the top 10 among all GOJHL goalies with a record of 15 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties, along with 3 shutouts. Walcarius was taken 23rd overall in the second round of the 2019 OHL Under 18 Draft by the Erie Otters and was selected to participate in the GOJHL 2002’s All-Star Game versus the Brock Badgers.

 

Julien Gervais from the Chatham Maroons is the Player of the Month. Gervais picked up 18 points on 5 goals and 13 assists in his team’s 9 games . The 19-year-old Windsor native also had a total of 5 three-point games in November. Gervais has more than tripled his point output from last season with the Maroons and is one of the top ten scorers in the GOJHL.

Christian Lynch from the Thorold Blackhawks is the Goaltender of the Month. Lynch picked up 5 wins against just 1 loss while posting a 1.34 goals against average, a .950 save percentage, and added 2 shutouts in the process. Lynch, an 18-year-old Ajax native, is in his rookie season with the Blackhawks after spending the last two seasons with the St. George Ravens of the Greater Metro Hockey League.

Carson Woodall from the Lasalle Vipers is the Rookie of the Month. The 16-year-old scored 5 times and added 8 assists in his team’s 10 games in November. Woodall also scored a dynamic ‘Michigan’ goal against Leamington in a game where he added 2 assists. The Emeryville, Ontario native was selected in the 10th round, 202nd overall, by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2022 OHL Priority Draft.

Dylan Dekoe of the Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs is October’s Player of the Month after picking up 8 goals and 14 assists in his team’s 13 games. The 20-year-old Welland native had five 3-point games including two on consecutive nights versus Niagara Falls and Welland. Dekoe leads the GOJHL in scoring with 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. He is in his second season with the Corvairs and is having a breakout campaign after picking up 24 points in 20 games last season.

October’s Rookie of the Month recipient is Daniel Vasic from the Thorold Blackhawks. The Newmarket native earned 9 goals and 16 points in 9 games and after a slow start the 16-year-old now has 21 points in 16 games and leads the Blackhawks in scoring. The forward had three, 3-point games in October including a hat trick performance in a victory over Pelham. Vasic was selected in 6th round, 123rd overall, by the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2022 OHL Priority Draft after playing AAA U16 for the York Simcoe Express last season.

Stephen Toltl of the St. Catherines Falcons has been names the Goaltender of the Month for October. The 17-year-old Hamilton native won all four of his starts earning 2 shutouts while posting a 1.25 goals against average and a stingy .954 save percentage. Toltl’s shutouts came October 2 and 16 against Welland where he kicked out 32 and 22 shots respectively. He now has a record of 5 wins and 2 losses on the season with 3 shutouts, a sparkling 1.29 goals against average and a .951 save percentage. Toltl is in his rookie season in the GOJHL after playing with the AAA U18 Niagara North Stars for the 2021-22 season.

September 2022

The Offensive Player of the Month is Mateo Amaral from the Kitchener Waterloo Siskins. He picked up a whopping eight goals and seven assists in six games to lead his team to an undefeated month. Amaral’s point total includes a pair of four-point games in the month.

Brennan Faulkner from the Strathroy Rockets has been named the Rookie of the Month. The 17-year-old scored six goals and added six helpers in six games as the Rockets earned three victories.

The league’s Goalie of the Month award goes to Gavan Mask from the Ayr Centennials. The 17-year-old won all three games he appeared in, posting a 2.00 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. He also earned a shutout in a victory over St. Thomas.
