Reeves nets OT winner as Kilty B’s complete sweep to advance to Round 2

Mason Reeves scored the short-handed game-winner in overtime to give the Hamilton Kilty B’s a 2-1 win in Game 4 to complete a sweep of the Fort Erie Meteors in their opening-round series on Wednesday.

Reeves’ game-winner came with just 1:07 remaining in the first overtime period. It was his third goal in two games.

Luke Croucher had opened the scoring for Hamilton with 10 seconds left in the second period, before Cail Cirillo scored for the Meteors with 6:31 remaining to send the game to overtime.

Goaler Marco Costantini stopped 37 of 38 shots for the Kilty B’s, who outshot Fort Erie 57-38, including 19-8 in overtime. Meteors goaltender Jacob Hearne made 55 saves.

The Kilty B’s advance to the second round against the St. Catharines Falcons, who also swept their first-round series against the Welland Jr. Canadians.

It is the most highly-anticipated second-round series in the GOJHL, with the Kilty B’s (35-12-1) finishing with the 25-team league’s third-best regular-season record behind the second-place Falcons (39-6-2).

In seven meetings this season, the Kilty B’s went 3-4-0 against St. Catharines. The schedule for the second round is still to be finalized.
