Defenceman Dowson Zheng opened the scoring at 10:33 of the first period, his first of the season, assisted by Luc Arsenault and Kobe Ferreira. First period ended 1-0 in favour of the Kings.
Kings made it 2-0 when Jakob Marche scored his first of the season at 1:45 of the second period on a power play. Assists going to Dowson Zheng and Cameron Welch. Vipers came back on goals at 6:09 and 11:26 to end the period in a 2-2 tie.
Jacob Rochford scored a go-ahead goal for the Kings, also his first of the season, at 3:00 of the third period assisted by Blake McConnell-Barker and Nathan Young. Vipers came back a minute-and-a-half later to tie the game at 3-3 on a 4-on-3 power play advantage. Both goalies made some great saves to end the period in a 3-3 tie.
The first OT period saw some great chances and great saves in 4-on-4 action. The second OT period continued with pressure applied by both teams and good chances stopped by the goalies.
Nathan Young stopped 37 of the 40 shots by the Vipers to end the game in a 3-3 DOT tie earning 1 point each in the standings. Kings took 38 shots on the Vipers net. Kings were 1-for-5 on the power play and the Vipers also 1-for-5. The PFPC three stars of the game were Jacob Rochford as1st Star, Nathan Young as the 2nd Star, and Jakob Marche as 3rd Star.
Kings travel to Leamington on Thursday September 19 to face the Flyers in their first meetings since the semi-final playoffs last March. Then the Kings have an extended break until Tuesday, September 24 when they take on the Rockets in Strathroy and then return to the Komoka Wellness Centre on Saturday, September 28 to face the St. Marys Lincolns.
