Win sets up showdown with St. Catharines in regular-season finale

It all comes down the final game of the regular season.

The Hamilton Kilty B’s did their part on Monday night, knocking off the short-handed Buffalo Regals 7-1 at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena, to set up a showdown on the road with the St. Catharines Falcons in Friday’s regular-season finale.

If the Kilty B’s (31-15-3) win on Friday against the Falcons (32-15-2), Hamilton will finish third in the Golden Horseshoe Conference and have home-ice advantage for a favourable first-round matchup with sixth-place Pelham (17-28-3). If St. Catharines win, the Kilty B’s will finish fourth and face the fifth-place Thorold Blackhawks (24-19-4).

The Kilty B’s took care of business in their final regular-season home game on Monday night. After Jordan Van Hunnik scored the only goal of the first period against the Regals (9-34-6), the Kilty B’s got goals in a 1:51 span early in the second period from Steven Laforme, Mark Benn, Fred Teeple and Jacob McEachern to put the game away. Nick Giamou and Yon Shimpo added goals later in the period before Buffalo’s Brendan Krawczyk spoiled Justin Easter’s shutout bid with 9:51 remaining.

The Kilty B’s outshot the Regals 55-14, including 31-3 in the second period.

Macdonald honoured

Kilty B’s captain Jacob Macdonald was recognized as the GOJHL’s Co-Offensive Player of the Month for January prior to the game. In 10 games in January, Macdonald had seven goals and 18 points. He is sixth in the GOJHL in scoring with 33 goals and 76 points in 49 games and is also the top scoring rookie in the GOJHL.
