The LaSalle Vipers hopes of moving towards third-place in the GOJHL’s Western Conference took a hit last night as the team fell to the visiting St. Marys Lincolns by a score of 6-4.
Evan Ferguson scored two outstanding solo rush goals less than a minute apart to give the Vipers a 2-1 lead mid way through the first period, but from that point on on their demise was met by far too much sloppy play.
The Lincolns scored at the tail-end of the opening frame on a breakaway and then added two more goals in the second period to take a two-goal lead heading into the third. Spencer Paradis scored twice in the third to each time bring his team within a goal, but they could not get any closer and the Lincolns put it away with an empty-netter with 20 seconds to go.
Evan Ferguson’s two goals gives him 11 on the season, while Spencer Paradis continued his hot scoring and notched his 15th and 16th goals which puts him third on the team despite having missed 13 games.
Now nine points back of the Lincolns, the focus on playing desperate, playoff-style hockey remains as the Vipers need wins to fend off the push from the Chatham Maroons for the fourth-place position.
Next up for the Vipers is another pair of road games, beginning Friday night when the team travels to St. Thomas to take on the Stars. They will then head to Strathroy on Saturday to take on the Rockets.
