Taggart, Shannon spark offence as Kilty B’s go ahead 2-0 in series

Affiliate forward Ralph Taggart, skating in his first game with the club since December, scored twice  to spark the Hamilton Kilty B’s to a 5-1 win over the Fort Erie Meteors in Game 2 of their opening round best-of-seven series on Saturday.

Taggart, 19, was the top scorer on the junior C Hagersville Hawks this season and has previous GOJHL experience with the Caledonia Corvairs.

Marc Shannon had three assists for the Kilty B’s, who controlled the game from the start and outshot the Meteors 39-16. Luke CroucherMarino Moro and Chris Ishmael had the other goals for the Kilty B’s, while Cail Cirillo scored for Fort Erie.

Marco Costantini made 15 saves to earn the win.

The Kilty B’s had taken a 1-0 series lead with a 7-4 win in the series-opener on Feb. 25, battling back from a 3-1 deficit in the second period.

Alex Jerome scored twice, while Kris Black, Anthony PinelliFreddy Teeple, Croucher and Shannon scored for the Kilty B’s.

Matt Minichiello, Luca Mazzo, and Nathan Reichel, with two, scored for Fort Erie.

Marco Costantini stopped 31 of 35 shots for the win.

Game 3 of the series goes Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
