STEWART HEADLINES GOLDEN HORSESHOE OCTOBER PLAYERS-OF-THE-MONTH

NOVEMBER 2021 – The GOJHL announced the Golden Horseshoe Conference’s first recipients for the players-of-the-month of the 2021-22 season for September and October.

Being a huge reason for Hamilton’s terrific start to the season, Gage Stewart was named the Goaltender-of-the-Month as he went a perfect 7-0-0, which included four shutouts.  The 18-year-old Thunder Bay, ON native has made a dramatic impression in his GOJHL rookie season.  Coming from the Thunder Bay Kings AAA organization, Stewart posted a sparkling .073 GAA and .970 SV%, while only allowing five goals in his first seven junior games.

Matthew Riva, forward with the Niagara Falls Canucks was selected as the Offensive Player-of-the-Month after a hot start to his 5th and final season with the Canucks.  Riva tallied 14 goals in only 12 games, while adding 10 assists.  The Niagara Falls, ON native was the 2019-20 recipient of the OHA’s Donald Sanderson Memorial Award.  Riva currently sits 3rd in scoring in the GOJHL.

Claiming the Golden Horseshoe’s Defensive Player-of-the-Month was St. Catharines defenceman Joe Colasurdo.  The Falcons’ captain tallied one goal and nine assists in 11 games.  In his 4th season on the St. Catharines blueline, Colasurdo helped his team to lead the entire GOJHL with 0.91 goals allowed per game through October 31st.
