St. Marys Lincolns acquired a forward from London Nationals in a straight cash deal Dec. 1.

The team’s newest player is Griffin Sinden, an 18-year-old forward from Tillsonburg. The 6 ft., 2 inch, 200 lb. Sinden had seven goals, 17 points and 54 penalty minutes in 22 games with the first-place Nats. He also had three game winners.

“He may have felt he was the odd-man out in London and wasn’t getting a lot of opportunities,” Lincs’ GM Greg Smale told the Independent last week. “St. Marys is one of the last places London wanted him to go to, but he actually asked to come here. They reluctantly gave him to me.”

A year ago with the Dorchester Jr. ‘C’ Dolphins, Sinden had 10 goals and 33 points in 18 games.

–Leamington Flyers have upgraded their defensive corps, coach Cam Crowder said during a recent stop in St. Marys.

“We found two defencemen that we think can help us out,” Crowder said. One of those blue-liners is Anthony Chambers, who started the season with Weyburn Red Wings of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Lincolns and Flyers have given up the fewest goals against in the Western Conference to date. “St. Marys is a really stingy team; they play a very similar game to ours,” Crowder noted.

Leamington has just eight players back from a year ago.

–Kaleb Pearson, of the Owen Sound Attack, was recently named the Huron Tractor Ltd. ‘Attacker of the Week’ for Week 10 of the OHL season. The 19-year-old St. Marys native scored twice and added an assist.

The right winger is in his second season with the Attack. In 28 games, Pearson has eight goals, 13 points and 12 penalty minutes. He fired a powerplay goal in a 6-3 win over the Knights in London last Friday night.

–Four St. Marys minor hockey products are playing for the Exeter Jr. ‘C’ Hawks this season. They are Owen Hartman, Connor Aarts, Blake Boreham and Jack Lucas. Owen McIntosh and George Hensel, members of the Cement ‘BB’ Midgets, have also played for the Hawks this season as affiliate skaters.

After weekend action, Exeter (16-9-1-1) is tied for second place with Dorchester and Thamesford in the Yeck Division. Hawks, coached by Ryan Shipley, reached the OHA provincial semi-finals last season.
