Kings persevere to take a 4-3 DOT win over the Kitchener Dutchmen at the GOJHL Showcase in Pelham.
After a close loss on Friday the Komoka Kings came out skating hard and challenging the Kitchener Dutchmen in a fast and back and forth game. With the Kings a man in the penalty box, the Dutchmen opened the scoring at 14:23 of the 1st period and take a 1-0 lead at the end of one. Shots on net were 9 to 7 in favour of the Dutchmen in a very even game.
The 2nd period continued the fast back and forth until #19 Kobe Ferreira scored at 9:30 of the period to tie the game at 1-1. It was Kobe’s first of the season and first as a King, with assists to Dowson Zheng and Luc Arsenault. Kitchener took 12 shots on net and the Kings 11.
The Dutchman quickly took the lead 2-1 when they scored at 0:27 of the third period. The Kings came back quickly at 1:12 to tie it at 2-2 on a marker by #9 Cameron Welch, his 2nd of the season, and assisted by Christian Kyrou and Toby Rizzo. #20 Ian Lutowicz made it 3-2 for the Kings at 6:55, with his first as a King, assists going to Will Lewis and Jakob Marche. The Dutchmen tied the game 3 3 scoring at 14:42. Both teams had excellent chances but also great goaltending kept the puck out for the rest of regulation time. Kings outshot the Dutchmen 14 to 11 in the period.
The first 4-on-4 overtime period saw the Dutchmen putting pressure in the Kings zone but solid D and good clearing by the Kings stopped the attacks and the period ended without any scoring. Dutchmen outshot the Kings 4 to 1 in the period.
Kings came out strong in the 5th period 3-on-3 and at 1:23 #17 Luc Arsenault tipped in a neat pass from Kobe Ferreira to take the game 4-3 in DOT, Luc’s first of the season. Dowson Zheng took the initial shot to earn the second assist on the winner. Total shots on net in the game were even at 36 by each team.
Kings were 0-for-7 on the power play and Kitchener 1-for-7.
Showcase analysts gave the first star of the game to Luc Arsenault for his winning goal and also earning an assist. Kings Kobe Ferreira the third star also with a goal and assist.
Kings next action is the home opener on Saturday night, September 14 when the Strathroy Rockets come to the Komoka Wellness Centre – 7:15 pm puck drop.
