GREATER ONTARIO JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE ANNOUNCES WESTERN CONFERNCE AWARD WINNERS

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) is pleased to announce the Western Conference award winners along with the All-Star and Rookie Teams:

MacPherson had a sensational year with Leamington scoring 28 goals and adding 35 assists, ranking him third in the conference. He was selected to participate in both the St. Andrew’s College MacPherson Challenge Tournament and the GOJHL Top Prospects Game. He has also committed to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, an NCAA Division I school.

Nichol had an impressive rookie campaign for St. Thomas with 20 goals and 44 assists, good for second in the Western Conference among all skaters. He was selected to participate in the 2023 St. Andrew’s College MacPherson Challenge Tournament, the GOJHL Future Stars Game, and was named GOJHL Rookie of the Month for January. He was chosen in the third round by the London Knights in the 2022 OHL Priority Draft.

Woodall’s superb rookie campaign with LaSalle earned him a spot on the GOJHL’s MacPherson Challenge Tournament team and he was selected to participate in the Future Stars Game. He has also signed with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires after being selected in the tenth round in the 2022 OHL Priority Draft. His 11 goals and 41 points were good enough for ninth among blueliners in the entire league.

Lecot led LaSalle’s blueliners with 17 goals and 48 points, numbers good enough to be the fifth leading scorer among the league’s defenceman. He was selected to participate in GOJHL 2002’s All-Stars versus Brock Badgers exhibition game and has been named a Western Conference All-Star for the second consecutive season.

Wood’s 26 goals and 62 points were third-best on London’s roster this season, his second with the Nationals after two years with Strathroy. Not only did he score 10 power-play goals he earned just five minor penalties in 49 games. Wood was an eighth-round pick by the Peterborough Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Draft.

MacPherson, who will be joining his twin brother in the lineup for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, finished second in team scoring behind Connor with 26 goals and 61 points. He was selected to participate in the St. Andrew’s College MacPherson Challenge Tournament and the GOJHL Top Prospects Game.

Head Coach Matthew Beaudoin and his staff led the Vipers to a 33-win, 68-point season, good for fourth in the Western Conference. He is in his second season as coach after playing for the team from 2008 to 2012. He then played two seasons at the University of Windsor for the Lancers.

The Leamington Flyers finished the regular season with 35 wins and 74 points, a single point ahead of the London Nationals.

Chard scored 19 goals and had 66 points to lead all Western Conference scorers in his second season with London. The 19-year-old Burlington native scored in bunches with four, 4-point games and five 3-goal games.

Nichol has added this award to his Rookie of the Year trophy.

The Leamington Flyers dynamic goaltending duo of Bryce Walcarus and Boe Piroski combined to lead the Western Conference with a 2.40 goals-against average. Walcarus appeared in 29 games with a 2.32 goals against and a .911 save percentage along with four shutouts and was the GOJHL Goaltender of the Month for December. Piroski was equally as stingy and had a 2.40 goals against, a .903 save percentage, and one shutout and was named the GOJHL Goaltender of the Month for January.
