GOJHL receives Ontario Sport Network Grant

July 27, 2022 – The Greater Ontario Hockey League is appreciative to be a recipient of an Ontario Sport Network Emergency Relief Community Sport & Recreation Grant.

The grants were issued to organizations that demonstrated financial need, clearly articulated a strategy to use the grant to sustain their programming and demonstrated strong community impact from their programming.

“When our 2020-21 league season was cancelled due to the pandemic, like everyone we experienced a great financial loss, so to receive this grant helps our league stabilize our finances moving forward,” said GOJHL Commissioner Brent Garbutt.

“This grant will contribute to their financial recovery and assist those who have suffered serious programming setbacks for the last few years. The impact to this sector has been immense.  We continue to be committed to stabilizing the sport and recreation community across the province and thank the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport for this purposeful initiative.” said Patsy Coyle, Managing Director of Ontario Sport Network.

“Our government is pleased to have contributed $7 million to ensure local sport and recreation organizations are able to continue offering opportunities for youth and adults to participate in physical activity,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

The grant will enable the GOJHL to invest in strategic positioning initiatives as well as expand player support resources and promotion.  The GOJHL is one of 234 organizations that were selected to receive support as part of the $7 million program.
