Falcons, Warriors get big shutout wins against conference rivals

In front of a season-high home crowd of 608, Hayden Jeffery made 21 saves for his first shutout of the season, and fourth of his GOJHL career, and Calvin Petrovsky’s goal (video) late in the second period was the game-winner as the Falcons (19-5-0-0) won their ninth straight to claim sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.  The Meteors (15-6-1-0), who were 0 for 7 on the power play, had points in their previous 10 games (9-0-1-0) before Thursday’s loss.

Stratford Warriors 4

Rookie Chase Furlong (5th round, Erie Otters, 2023) made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season and Cole Lewis scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season as the Warriors (17-6-1-0) avenged Wednesday’s overtime loss in LaSalle and moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference.   The Vipers (17-7-0-0) were shutout for the second time in three games as their league-best power play (25.0%) was scoreless in six opportunities.

Port Colborne Sailors 7

Vasily Serov and Easton Lynds (9th round, Peteborough Petes, 2023) each scored two goals as the Sailors (14-8-1-1) scored a season-high seven goals for their third straight win to maintain sole possession of fourth place in the Eastern Conference.  The Redhawks (12-10-1-1) suffered their third straight road loss.

St. Marys Lincolns 2

David Brown scored the winner (video) with 1:32 left in overtime and Joshua Lepain scored two goals as the Nationals (14-6-2-1) won their third straight in front of a season-high crowd of 1059 at the Pyramid Centre.  After winning their first seven home games of the season, the Lincolns (17-5-1-0) are winless in their last two on home-ice, but with the OTL single point, are now tied with Stratford for first place in the Western Conference.

Payton Stowe (9th round, Erie Otters, 2022) scored his second goal of the season six minutes into the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Stars (6-13-2-1) their first win in three meetings against Listowel this season and just their second win against Western Conference opponents (2-13-2-1).   The Cyclones (13-7-1-0) had their two-game win streak ended despite a 39-27 advantage in shots on goal and remain tied with Elmira for sixth place in the Western Conference.

Drew Agnew scored scored the game-winner eight minutes into the third period as the Corvairs (13-8-2-1) now have points in five straight games (4-0-0-1) since ending their 6-game winless streak.  Patrick Polaczek scored his team-leading 9th goal of the season for the Bombers (1-23-0-0) who suffered their 23rd consecutive defeat.
