FLYERS FLIP GOALIES WITH BCHL CLUB

LEAMINGTON – The Leamington Flyers have added an experienced goaltender to the mix for their 2019-2020 season.

Leamington has picked up goalie, Matthew Waite from Cowichan Valley in the British Columbia Hockey League.

Waite, who is the son of former NHL goaltender Jimmy Waite and will be attending the University of Windsor this year, has also played two seasons with the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

“We love Matt because he’s a veteran goalie with experience at the next level,” said Flyers General Manager, Justin Solcz. “We expect him to be a leader and hope we can help him develop and transition into playing at the USport level next year.”

To bring in Waite, the Flyers have sent goalie, Zach Borgiel to Cowichan Valley.

“We want to thank Zach for a great season and all his contributions to the team,” Solcz stated. “He was a class act on and off the ice and we wish him the best.”

“I’m feeling great about it,” said Waite of the trade to Leamington. “It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to getting on the ice soon.”

When asked what characteristics he brings to the team, Waite’s answer was simple.

“I’m a hard worker,” Waite responded. “And I don’t like to lose. So I’m going to do everything I can to prevent that from happening.”

The Flyers’ training camp runs from Friday Aug 16th to Sunday, Aug 18th at the Kinsmen Recreation Complex.
