Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Commissioner Craig Spada issues the following statement regarding NCAA player eligibility changes:
This announcement that CHL players will now be eligible to compete in the NCAA beginning as early as the 2025-26 season is historic and exciting in development.
The GOJHL has continually addressed the young athlete and the pathway. Now this NCAA announcement identifies a clear less restrictive pathway of choice. Players at a young age have been forced to make many difficult decisions, this now can alleviate some of that stress in the process.
As Hockey leagues collectively prepare a development plan for Ontario players, the GOJHL will continue in its role with great enthusiasm to support these young men as athletes and students both on and off the ice.
The GOJHL has proven to produce talent to the next level and this news will provide our teams more opportunities to do just that.
Players in Ontario and Canada wide should be excited as this decision clearly demonstrates the importance of putting the athlete first.
